For just over a month, and until March 2020, Piazza Municipio in Naples has been invaded by angry wolves.
You will wonder where they come from and above all what they want from us. Soon said. They are oriental fairs, a peculiarity highlighted by the stylistic rendering and the expressed narration. The pack of wolves is part of a project entitled Wolves Coming, by Matteo Lorenzelli.
Their father is Liu Ruowang, a well-known Chinese artist, who, after Venice and Turin, decided to bring his installation to Naples: one hundred iron wolves, each of which weighs 280kg, all very angry against a single, imposing warrior armed with sword. Man, as you will notice, is less defined than wolves, who are the masters not only for their number, but above all for the message of which they are the spokesman.
It is nature that turns against man and the little attention and care he has in anthropizing the environment around him. With this work, Liu Ruowang merges a critique of his culture's philosophy of thought with that of western globalization.
Visiting the square you will also become part of the work. Selfie in plastic poses, souvenir photos alone or in a group, discussions about the meaning of the installation, a playful aspect that enriches the sense of the artist's denunciation.
